Ireland has one of the most vibrant international horse industries in the world. The breeding, sale, and competition of horses is a multi-billion Euro a year industry, in multiple aspects of the horse industry, including racing, sport horses, and pleasure horses. Ireland also has a long history of horse sports, with racing grounds such as the Curragh having evidence of racing before written records.
Due to the vibrancy of the horse industry, Ireland (and Northern Ireland) also have a variety of educational programs for the horse industry, both formal (multiple colleges, universities, and technical schools), and non-formal, such as Teagasc, and other community and industry run educational opportunities.
Students will learn about the various aspects of the Irish horse industry, as well as history and culture of Ireland. We will attend the races at the Curragh, one of the oldest racecourses in the world, horse shows, visit colleges and Universities with an equine emphasis, and various farms and equine businesses representing the breadth of the Irish horse industry, from International sport horses, to local riding programs. Cultural visits will include Blarney Castle, Connemara and the Kilmainham Gaol.
